- Until now, Andrey Pavlovich, a professor of philology and a dull academic, has led an uneventful and monotonous life until late one night he offers a lift to a young woman in his car. The woman's name is Katya, and naively Nikolai does not realise she is a prostitute, until a sinister character called Tayson turns up in pursuit of her. Tayson is Katya's pimp, and he threatens to kill Nikolai. A fight breaks out, and Tayson is accidentally killed.
